Experimenting on School Children

Joanne Jacobs quotes a Seattle school superintendent and school board member criticizing charter schools on the grounds that children are too precious to experiment on. She then quotes another blogger ridiculing that fear.

The ridicule is deserved, but there is an additional point. Conventional schools are only to happy to experiment on school children with the latest educational fads. It's only when experimentation comes from the competition that the public schools think it is bad.
